Job Description

ASRC Federal is extending its portfolio of US Department of Agriculture opportunities across the country. Experience with government contracting, particularly "rural development," is highly desirable.  We provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes a matching 401k with quick vesting and education reimbursement. ASRC Federal is looking for a talented Transmission Engineer to support a USDA loan and grant contract.   This ideal applicant will have previous expertise designing, developing, or planning gearbox facilities to fulfil identified and forecasted gearbox needs.

Remote location (capability to travel if necessary)

Clearance: 

Must be able to pass a background check conducted by the government.

Responsibilities:

  1. In support of loan applications asking cash to finance proposed projects to modify, purchase, or develop electrical transmission infrastructure or generation projects, conducts assessments and analyses of transmission requirements, system impact studies, and transmission agreements.
  2. Confirm that existing or newly constructed transmission facilities are available to allow power to be transmitted, dispatched, and exported as needed and intended, and that circuit stability and reliability criteria are met.
  3. Responsible for reviewing and evaluating new electrical facilities' technical merits, cost estimates, and system effectiveness; transmission feasibility; system impact and facility studies; transmission arrangements; and interconnection agreements.
  4. Working on gearbox and/or distribution systems is an option.


Fundamental Qualifications:  


  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering 
  • A minimum of 5yrs' relevant work experience; 3yrs' relevant work experience with a Master's degree.
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, or planning gearbox facilities to fulfil identified and future gearbox needs.
  • Thorough understanding of the design and operation of key transmission systems and components (for example, substations, transformers, overhead and underground lines, poles and so on).
  • Knowledge of reliability norms, rules and standards for the electric utility industry, NESC, NERC, FERC, and regional transmission organisations (RTO/ISO's).
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the capacity to interact with professionals at all levels.
  • Strong written and communication skills are required.

Qualifications Preferred:


  1. Experience assisting with government contracts or federal employment
  2. Experience working with the USDA and/or rural development
  3. Be willing to travel if necessary.
