Roles and Responsibilities of the Job

As part of our client's multi-disciplined Water Design Team situated near Huddersfield, the Electrical Engineer will produce the EICA design content of water sector projects.

Water and sewage works design will be included in the projects. This will encompass design delivery at all stages, from feasibility and pioneering to full building designs.

Surveying and reporting on existing installations will be part of the job, as will choosing the optimum options for pumping stations, treatment works, mechanical screening, sludge handling systems, pipes, gantry steelwork, and so on.

Responsibilities

  1. Create excellent concept design solutions that adhere to the project brief.
  2. Carry out a broad range of design work on all aspects of function design and maintenance.
  3. Implement cost-effective, innovative design solutions to fulfill technical and project objectives.
  4. Maintain excellent technical standards while adhering to the project brief.
  5. Projects are progressed through conceptual and thorough design, with a focus on client requirements and creativity.
  6. Contact clients and ensure that their needs are appropriately communicated to the team.
  7. Prepare and review engineering designs and computations, as well as supervise drawing production.
  8. Prepare and double-check contract documentation as well as scheme cost estimates.
  9. Prepare and review technical documentation and reports, as well as assist with tender preparation.
  10. Ensure that relevant health, safety, and environmental requirements, including the CDM regulations, are followed.
  11. Supervise all engineers, technicians, and assistant and graduate engineers in the team.
  12. Respond to and communicate with site construction crews.
  13. Maintain a focused and solid client relationship.
  14. Assist with contract preparation, as well as project planning and scheduling.
  15. Project administration, including monitoring program delivery, resources, and budgets, is reported to the Project Manager.
  16. Inspections, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and fees
  17. Effective project management and correspondence response.
  18. Checks are performed to ensure compliance with the integrated management system and to aid in its development.

Specific Role Responsibilities

  • Serving as the project's chief engineer. Capable of taking on large design components on their own initiative and with little supervision.
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to gather and analyze data and report on findings.
  • Site inspections.
  • Checking and evaluating supplier's Functional Design Specifications (FDS) against the URS standards.
  • Use engineering-related software such as Amtech, Re-lux, and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Access). The ability to use AutoCAD would be advantageous but not required.

The Person's Quality

  • Strong understanding of the BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Capability to create electrical and instrument design drawings and requirements.
  • Familiarity with Amtech program for cable calculation production.
  • A solid understanding of sewage and clean water processes.
  • Knowledge of LV power distribution, motor control centers, instrumentation, motors, and other water industry-related topics.
  • The capacity to conduct site surveys and develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Using Microsoft Word and Excel, create Design Hazard Risk Assessments and Pre-Construction Information (part of the Health and Safety).
  • Be able to predict the number of working hours required at the start of a job in order to create a cost plan.
  • To be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
